The Giver

Good Thursday Afternoon Dear Reader,

However windy it is today, and it is windy, the weather is still delightful. I ventured out of the house today and did some shopping for the yard. I didn’t find much but I did have some success. Anyway, I bought this one heavy item and so an older man offered to help me to my car; I said NO ( it wasn’t that heavy), but in so many ways he insisted so I conceded. Hear me close when I say that his persistence  is not what changed my mind. Instead it was that God spoke to me and said, “Don’t block his blessing”. Too consumed with what was going on I didn’t care to think about what God was saying, I just obeyed.

Once my packages were in the car I went inside another store; when I  was walking away from my car God spoke to me yet again. “Aren’t you the one who said that instead of giving up something for Lenten, you plan to give more of yourself by choosing to help someone each day?” Oops!!! I thought, I need to find somebody to help before I get back home. As I walked the aisles of the store I began to think about the promise I made to myself for Lenten. But then I turned my thoughts to God and when I did He allowed me to understand this:

When I agreed to allow that older man to help me to the car, I was GIVING of myself. How? I knew you would ask. 1) I yielded my own will to the will of God through obedience 2) By conceding my own strength and independence, it allowed that man to receive his blessing by helping me.

So lets not be deceived when it comes to defining the Gift of Giving because it come in an array of packages. The word of the Day:   “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.    ~ Acts 20:35

My Saturday Prayer

Good morning Jesus,

Theres a very dense fog huddling over New Jersey this morning yet I am glad because you have awaken me to start my day anew. I’m on my way to Belize and I ask for your traveling mercies; allow your angels of protection to encamp about me and those I’m with to keep us safe.

Lord, of all the things I can ask of you on any given day, today it’s important that your will be done and that I accept what I do not understand as you impart your will towards me. You are my creator and redeemer, you’re a God who is mistake free and I trust you with my life.  Amen.

Word do the day: (5)Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (6) in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Be Careful, ” That’s the Hand that Feeds You”

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded the seven chamberlains that served him  to bring Vashti the Queen before the king with the royal crown, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on. But the queen refused to come at the kings command and he he was very wroth.               ~Esther 1:11-12(abridged)

Really? what a slap  in the face. So your husband permits you to throw a big bash for you and your girls, he bares no expense; you go into the treasure chest to pick out the finest jewelry. Your hair and makeup is undoubtedly flawless and you’re  scented with the most expensive oils, and perfumes. All this done at your man’s expense (the king).

After the queen basked in her own light for 7 days the king wants to show her off. He’s enamored by her – totally in love. He didn’t command for her party to cease, didn’t command for the drinks and food to end. All he requested was for her presence. And she said “NO”.  Anytime a man wants to show off his wife her answer should be “yes dear”why? Because that’s one of many ways he is saying “honey, I think you’re really awesome and I’m so glad you’re mine” Too bad she missed How to be a Good Wife 101. She refused the very person who covered her, who had her back, who fed her.

The Generous King

Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which BELONGED TO KING AHASUERUS.                              ~Esther 1:9

Those of us who have received a message/sermon from the book of Esther will agree that the focus is on the young, beautiful, virgin. Today I read the book of Esther as I have so many to times before and I recognized the generosity of the king. The above biblical verse notes that Queen Vashti was having a royal party(feast) of her own on her husbands dime; at his expense. Considering the wealth of a king this party was no doubt luxurious – top of the line, no short cuts. Most likely, her royal garments were made of the finest fabrics, and she was adorned with  the most precious of jewels(you feeling the love/generosity towards the queen). She had to be feeling herself(slang). I don’t know about you but it sounds to me as though she was a well kept, spoiled women who had a man that adored her. Adored her so much that he wanted to flaunt her charm and beauty among his guest that were invited to his royal feast.
