The Giver

Good Thursday Afternoon Dear Reader,

However windy it is today, and it is windy, the weather is still delightful. I ventured out of the house today and did some shopping for the yard. I didn’t find much but I did have some success. Anyway, I bought this one heavy item and so an older man offered to help me to my car; I said NO ( it wasn’t that heavy), but in so many ways he insisted so I conceded. Hear me close when I say that his persistence  is not what changed my mind. Instead it was that God spoke to me and said, “Don’t block his blessing”. Too consumed with what was going on I didn’t care to think about what God was saying, I just obeyed.

Once my packages were in the car I went inside another store; when I  was walking away from my car God spoke to me yet again. “Aren’t you the one who said that instead of giving up something for Lenten, you plan to give more of yourself by choosing to help someone each day?” Oops!!! I thought, I need to find somebody to help before I get back home. As I walked the aisles of the store I began to think about the promise I made to myself for Lenten. But then I turned my thoughts to God and when I did He allowed me to understand this:

When I agreed to allow that older man to help me to the car, I was GIVING of myself. How? I knew you would ask. 1) I yielded my own will to the will of God through obedience 2) By conceding my own strength and independence, it allowed that man to receive his blessing by helping me.

So lets not be deceived when it comes to defining the Gift of Giving because it come in an array of packages. The word of the Day:   “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.    ~ Acts 20:35
